Hekitari app for iOS & the web
Umujyanama
Free AI farm adviser for Rwanda, in Kinyarwanda
Umujyanama is Hekitari's free, AI-powered farm advisory app for the farmers of Rwanda. Find your land among every registered parcel in the country, or draw it on the map, say what is growing on it, and from then on the field is read from satellite every night. It tells you how the crop is doing for its stage and what it should yield, explains the soil and the weather, and uses AI to diagnose a sick plant from a photo and answer questions by voice in Kinyarwanda. It is on the App Store for iPhone and runs in the browser on any phone.
Free, with no advertising. Read your first analysis with no account, then open your own free account in a minute to keep the field.

Inside the app

Frequently asked questions
Is Umujyanama free?
Yes. Umujyanama is free to download from the App Store and free to use, with no advertising. An account can follow up to 25 fields, and questions, photos and land studies have fair-use limits per account because it is a public service.
Is Umujyanama on Android?
It is not on Google Play yet, but Android phones do not need to wait. Open umujyanama.hekitari.com in Chrome and choose Add to Home screen: it installs with its own icon, runs full screen, and opens without a connection once it has been opened with one.
Do I need an account?
Not for a first look. Find your land, name the crop and read the analysis with no account. To keep the field and get soil, weather, disease diagnosis, the adviser and a PDF report, open a free account with your name, a phone number or email, and your district. You are signed in at once, with nothing to wait for.
Does Umujyanama work in Kinyarwanda?
Yes, it opens in Kinyarwanda. The interface, the assessments, the soil and weather advice and the adviser's spoken answers are all in Kinyarwanda. The EN button at the top right switches the whole app to English, and RW switches it back.
Does the iPhone app work without internet?
The iPhone app needs a connection to open. Once it is open, a field you draw, a plant you photograph or a question you type is kept on the phone and sent when the network returns. For an app that also opens with no connection, add umujyanama.hekitari.com to the home screen from Safari instead.
Which crops does Umujyanama cover?
Its crop list holds 50 crops grown in Rwanda, including maize, beans, Irish potato, cassava, sorghum, banana, coffee, tea and avocado, each with its own growth calendar and expected yield. The readings are judged against what that crop should look like at that stage.
Who can see my fields?
Other users cannot: each account sees only its own fields. The outline, crop and analysis of a saved field are added, with your name and username, to a farm map held by Esri Rwanda for national crop monitoring. Your data is not sold and there is no advertising. You can delete your account in the app at any time; the full privacy policy is at umujyanama.hekitari.com/privacy.html.
How is Umujyanama different from Smart Farm Manager?
Umujyanama is the free public service: any farmer opens an account alone and gets advice on their fields. Smart Farm Manager is set up by Hekitari's team around a farm or cooperative, adding digital farm records, harvest planning and role-based access across member farms.
